[SV:04] Training 1: Section 2… Calculate then meditate

It’s a LOT of power… once your done, just sit back and let it sink in to your mind.

TODAY IN AREA154:

  • Download Training 1 and go to section 2.
    -=-
  • WORK TIME! (Finish section 1 if you don’t have that done first) Then work on section 2.
    -=-=-=-=-
  • Training 1 section 3 will be rolled out for us to take a preview look at for tomorrow.

[SV:03] Training 1: Section 2… a taste of true power

To begin to wrap your head around the energy output of a super eruption, section 2 has been prepared for you to do just that. Compare explosive energy output of things you might be familiar with to larger events. This will be a blast! Literally…

TODAY IN AREA154:

  • Download Training 1 and go to section 2.
    -=-
  • Section 2 will be discussed in class. There is also a support video that talks about the power levels of various explosions.
    -=-
  • We will then talk about how to work with exponential powers – how to do math with them.
    -=-
  • WORK TIME! (Finish section 1 if you don’t have that done first) Then work on section 2.

[SV:03] Training 1: Section 1 Finish our introduction

We started in on our introduction of the Yellowstone World Destroyer yesterday. Today, let’s finish section 1.

TODAY IN AREA154:

  • Go to the site, log in, download Training 1 and start off the video at the 7:50 sec mark.
    -=-
  • Read the three key points you need to identify.
    -=-
  • Watch the video and note those key points in your ATN. Full sentences and cleanly written!
    -=-
  • Our goal today is to sign that section off. IF… it doesn’t get finished today, plan on having it done over the weekend.

[SV:02] Training 1: Section 1 of the super volcano.

The training journey begins today where you will “enroll” into the Super Volcano case file. We’ll show you how to do it.

TODAY IN AREA154:

  • Let’s log into the site and follow these steps to ‘enroll’ into the training case file:
    – Go to where it says “New Trainings”
    – Select the Super Volcano case file
    – Then click on the blue button that says “Start taking this class”
    -=-
  • Once enrolled, find Training one and find the training PDF download link.
    -=-
  • Get briefed on how to use these special documents – all you need is just a click away.
    -=-
  • Start Training 1 and… maybe finish it?

[VBT: #1] DrT is out today… your task is below.

You will be beginning your venture into the world of the super volcano. Watch the video and answer the questions in your ATN.

This is a LONG video… but the questions only cover the first 40 min of the video.

VIDEO BASED TRAINING:

  1. One of the reporters asks the question about signs of an eventual eruption. What does he tell her that makes it seem as if the volcano is no immediate threat? (Do you think this actually happens where high ranking researchers are pushed to minimize any danger?)
    -=-
  2. At the 10:06 mark something starts to happen. How many of the signs of eruption do you see?
    -=-
  3. One of the 5 signs of the eruption has a particularly disruptive impact. Yellowstone has been rocked by these before, yet no eruption. What did you notice that was different with 7.5 quake that killed 9 people?
    -=-
  4. The lake at Yellowstone held an interesting secret. The USGS guys had to use a remote drone to see it. What was down there and does this indicate anything bad?
    -=-
  5. The caldera’s magma chamber that is filled with liquid rock is invisible to us and we can’t exactly stick a camera down there to take a look. What innovative method do scientists use to map and figure out the size of the magma chamber?
    -=-
  6. What is a pyroclastic flow and what are some of the reasons they are CRAZY dangerous?
    -=-
  7. How large did the USGS guy say the grains of volcanic ash were (in microns – which is 1/1,000,000th of a meter).
    -=-
  8. @ the 30:00 min mark the USGS guys begin using a computer simulation to predict the eruption strength. When compared to what actually happened, how useful do you feel the computer model was for predicting the size of the eruption?

[SV:01] Briefing Day: Your first Case file

Briefing days are special. This occurs when you are brought up to speed about the disaster survival situation you and your fellow agents will be facing. There’s no need for notes here, just some focused attention.

TODAY in AREA154:

  • What to do when I’m not here – because tomorrow I will not be here.
  • Your title page – The Super Volcano (you can also illustrate the cover page should you feel inspired to do so.)
  • The Briefing: The most deadly force on the planet: The Super Volcano

So, this is where it begins…

Today you will be introduced to the backbone of the entire program. The website that delivers all the content and is the starting place for every day.
